ABIM Launches Food Aid Mission to Pakistan

The Muslim Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) as well as its humanitarian agency, Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia, in cooperation with the Society for the Enlightenment of the Ummah (WADAH) and the National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students (PKPIM) launched a Food Aid Mission to Pakistan consisting of five containers of flour for the victims of the worst flood to hit the country since time immemorial. This flood calamity in Pakistan has so far claimed the highest number of victims, much more than the fatalities caused by the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004 and the Haiti earthquake of 2010.

It is so far the worst humanitarian crisis to hit the country yet, with food supplies being cut as roads are damaged and bridges had collapsed over flood waters.Wheat, which is the basic food commodity of all Pakistani communities, is now hard to find as an estimated 700,000 hectares of land planted to wheat, sugarcane and rice were destroyed by the calamity. The situation also prompted businessmen to hike prices to an all time high as food commodities became scarce.

For that matter, ABIM, GPM, WADAH and PKPIM invite Malaysians sympathetic to the Pakistani communities affected by this calamity to help defray the cost of RM45,000 for each container of twenty (20) tons of flour to be shipped to Karachi. Sympathetic Malaysian public may send their donations through the Global Peace Mission (GPM) Malaysia Accounts: Bank Islam No. – 14 0230 100 292 24 or Maybank No. – 564 221 611 602. Donors are also advised to fax their donation or payment slip to No. 03-6188 3233 or by email to gpmhq@yahoo.comThis e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
